Experienced Hospital Coder

Job Description
Florence Community Healthcare is looking for an analytical, detail-oriented Coder responsible for assigning diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of providing coding services for a broad range of clinical specialty areas and/or inpatient services. The Coder must possess a clear understanding of APC’s, MS-DRG’s and ICD-9 coding and be eligible for CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder-Hospital). Certification Preferred.

In this position you are responsible for;

  • Assigning diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records and forwarding reports as required. Performing coding on all types of cases.
  • Coding all ICD-9 CM, CPT-4, Diagnosis and Procedure Codes related to a patient’s services.
  • Accurately abstracting information from the medical records into the computerized abstract according to the established guidelines and processing data for report generation.

Skills / Requirements
The Coder has knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, surgical terminology, pharmacological terminology, patient care documentation terminology. Additionally, this candidate has the ability to communicate effectively, provide excellent customer service and the visual acuity necessary to read and decipher handwriting. Intermediate computer skills, analytical ability to interpret data contained in records and to assign appropriate codes.
